We tragically lost Becky in September 2022 to Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (a highly lethal disease spread by midges). She was about 6.5 years old at the time of her passing. We thank her for the joy she brought to our neighborhood for the short time she was with us.
Below is Becky’s original adoption post. If you would like to make a donation in remembrance of Becky, simply include the words “Remembrance Gift – Becky (Doe #76)” in the comment box on our online donation form or on your check memo if you donate by check.

We aren’t sure If there are any scandals waiting to be uncovered among the wildlife of Clifton, but if there are we’re pretty sure Becky – with her natural curiosity, sense of adventure, and fearlessness – would be the perfect private eye for the job. Although she and her daughter, Doe #78, are relatively new to Clifton (having immigrated from parts unknown in Fall 2019) they have quickly made Mt. Storm Park and its environs their own and have even made some good friends among the herd: they are often seen with another spunky mother-daughter duo, Doe #74 and her daughter, Doe #83 (a/k/a Iris).
Adopted and Named by: Rob & Kate Cantlon
Named in honor of: Rob’s mother, and there’s a story there. Rob explains:
“My mothers first name was Elvira and no one called her that. Her maiden name was Beckstedt, so my father called her Becky. Not that we children called her either Elvira or Becky. My mother produced 8 children in 9 pregnancies. One year for mother’s day I gave her a card that said on the outside, ‘I remember the first time I saw you, mom.’ On the inside it said, ‘out in the back yard throwing stones at the stork!‘ I thought it was funny and I had a reputation for funny cards. My mother started laughing and laughing and laughing. She did not stop. She laughed so long and hard that I stopped laughing and started thinking, ‘hey wait a minute, we are talking about my arrival as a child.’ I was 7th out of 8.
So when I think of deer and their unrestricted birth rates, I think maybe Becky could be a good name for one. It would probably give my mother a laugh.”
Becky is ~5.5 years old at the time of this posting (December 2021).
